what we do

The Maryknoll Missioners are priests, brothers, sisters and lay people who represent the United States Catholic Church in overseas mission. Our vision and goal comes from the Great Commission of Jesus, “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations”. We proclaim in word and action the saving liberating power of Jesus Christ.

a few words about us

Maryknoll Missioners in Africa

The first Maryknoll priests and brothers came to Africa in 1946 to the country of Tanzania. Since that time Maryknoll sisters, brothers and lay missioners have joined us in our mission to build the Kingdom of God amongst the least of the brothers and sisters. Maryknoll has served or is serving in other African countries such as Kenya, Sudan, Egypt, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Namibia, and Mozambique. We are involved in many various ways to serve the people like parishes, schools, hospitals, justice and peace concerns, formation of lay people, and leadership formation, these efforts and many more are for the sake of proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ.

bR. mARK hUNTINGTON

Brother Mark Huntington was born in Boise Idaho and grew up in Oregon .

Mark went to Hermison Senior High School where his parents Gordon and Patricia Huntington currently live nearby in Plymouth Washington .

Brother Mark has a Masters in Public Health from Boston University with a concentration in Health Care in Developing Countries. Brother has joined the Mabatini team in February, 2009 and currently is doing some research in the Mabatini area on community health with the plans of developing a health program with the local community. Mark has started a health committee in the parish to assist in seeking advice and in developing seminars with various sectors in the district to continue the research. We have begun to establish a net work with various sectors such as Bugando Medical School ’s department of Community Health, the Government clinics and health programs, various Non Government programs such as AMREF (African Medical Research Foundation), Catholic Relief Services, Kivulini (African Women working to fight domestic violence), TAHEA (Tanzania Home Economics Association which has various health programs) etc. and the Archdiocese of Mwanza (which Mabatini is apart of) health programs.

Brother has also begun to work with the Mwanza diocesan Brothers of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (pictured above). Mark enjoys working with the Mabatini team in this very active parish as we continue to build a new church with the community and prepare for the up coming Ordination in August.

It is exciting to work with the community, they are very interested in health concerns and together we can work for a healthier community not only physically but spiritually as well.
